Pikake-Style Niʻihau Shell Earrings

Delicate, elegant, and full of Hawaiian charm — our Pikake-style earrings are inspired by the timeless beauty of the beloved jasmine flower. Each pair features carefully arranged Niʻihau shells, often in soft pinks, creamy whites, or rich natural tones, hand-strung to mimic the graceful cluster of pikake blossoms.

Pikake-style earrings are known for their signature clustered form, inspired by the fragrant jasmine blossom beloved throughout Hawaiʻi. This style features small shells — mostly Momi shells (from the dove shell family) — arranged in dense, cascading strands that mimic a blooming garland or floral tassel.

Each strand is slightly tapered — full at the top, narrowing toward the tip — just like a natural pikake flower bud. The arrangement flows gracefully and softly, offering a look that is elegant, balanced, and rich in texture. The layered strands add movement and volume without feeling heavy, making these earrings both eye-catching and airy.

This style is also known as “single Pikake”, referring to its specific strand-based structure. In an upcoming blog, I’ll be explaining exactly what “single Pikake” means — where the name comes from, and how it's traditionally used in Hawaiian shell lei and jewelry. So please stay tuned to learn more!

We’ll also be diving deeper into the different types of shells used in Niʻihau jewelry — how they are born, how they form, and the many unique styles and patterns these Hawaiian sea treasures are transformed into by skilled hands. Every design holds a story, and soon I’ll be sharing more about how we bring those stories to life.

Much aloha and deep respect for the tradition,
— Janjira!
