These authentic Niʻihau shell earrings are handcrafted in the timeless Poepoe style, where each tiny shell is strung one by one to form a rounded, textured design. At 1 3/4" long, this pair carries a graceful length that allows the shells to shine beautifully while still being comfortable and easy to wear.
The earrings feature a colorful combination of Kahelelani Keʻokeʻo (natural white with pink banding), Kahelelani ʻŌmaʻomaʻo (light green), and Kahelelani ʻUlaʻula (red burgundy). In Hawaiian, Keʻokeʻo refers to white, but in Kahelelani shells this is often what I call the “natural color” — a creamy shade with faint pink rings or bands circling the shell. It’s the most common color you’ll find, but when paired with soft green and deep burgundy, it creates a balanced and striking look.
For this pair, I used Kahelelani shells size 13.5, chosen for their uniformity and luster. Each earring is topped with a polished Puka shell and finished with 14k gold-filled ear wires, creating a perfect blend of traditional Niʻihau artistry and timeless island elegance.
