Mixed Color Kahelelani Shells – Size 11 (Small Size) – 100 pcs

Origin of Shells: Niʻihau
Quantity: 100 shells
Quality: Assorted, unpoked
Size: 11 – small size

This is a listing of mixed color Kahelelani shells, collected from several different beaches on Niʻihau Island. Some of the shells have beautiful luster, while others may have a matte finish with deep, rich colors.

Kahelelani shells are the smallest type of shells used in traditional Niʻihau shell jewelry. Even at full adult size, they are still smaller than a standard head pin. Size 11 is considered a small size, so if you're new to working with Kahelelani shells, I recommend starting with size 12 or larger for easier handling.

I personally work with a lot of size 11 Kahelelani shells and use them to create single strand designs, as well as heliconia, kipona, and both two-strand and four-strand poepoe styles, often combined with Momi shells.

About the Photos

In the listing photos, you’ll see a size comparison guide. The arrow points to size 11, which matches the shells in this listing. You’ll also see how I use size 11 shells in a two-strand poepoe design with Momi shells—the jewelry samples are shown for reference only and are not included in the listing.

I do my best to take accurate photos with my digital camera, aiming to match the shell colors as closely as possible. I never enhance or alter the natural color of the shells.
