Certificate of Authenticity at ShellsHawaii

What It Means, When It’s Included, and How It Applies

One of the questions I receive most often is about authenticity — and understandably so. Niʻihau shell jewelry carries deep meaning, tradition, and history. Because of that, I believe in being open, clear, and transparent about how authenticity is documented at ShellsHawaii.com.

This blog is here to gently explain what my Certificate of Authenticity is, when it is included, and how it applies to different types of purchases, so you can shop with confidence and peace of mind.

What Is a Certificate of Authenticity?

A Certificate of Authenticity from ShellsHawaii.com is a personalized, signed document created to confirm the authenticity of your Hawaiian heirloom jewelry.

Each certificate is thoughtfully prepared and includes:
• a unique identification number
• a description of the jewelry design or style
• shell origin and the percentage of Niʻihau shells used
• purchase date
• my signature
a photo of the exact item you purchased

Printed on high-quality 4×6 glossy paper, the certificate becomes a lasting record of your one-of-a-kind treasure and the story behind it.

Is the Certificate of Authenticity Sold by Itself?

No.

The Certificate of Authenticity is not sold as a standalone item and has no value without a purchase from my shop.

A certificate may be added together with an item you purchase. Each one is lovingly prepared to match that specific piece and is not available on its own. The certificate is shipped together with your item at no additional shipping cost.

When Is the Certificate Included?

A Certificate of Authenticity is included at no additional cost with any individual item priced over $500.

For items priced under $500, a certificate may be added for $10 per item.

This applies to both finished jewelry and loose shell supplies. Certificates are prepared for each individual item, and you may choose to add one for each piece you purchase, not based on the order total.

Loose shell supplies do not automatically include a printed certificate, as each listing already provides clear details such as shell type, origin, quantity, and preparation. For customers who would like formal documentation, a Certificate of Authenticity may be purchased as an optional add-on. When requested, the certificate will confirm shell type and origin and will include a photo of the exact shells associated with that purchase.

Why I Handle Certificates This Way

Preparing a Certificate of Authenticity takes time, care, and attention — just like creating the jewelry itself. Each certificate is personally reviewed, documented, signed, and paired with the exact item it represents.

Offering certificates automatically for higher-value pieces and optionally for others allows me to keep pricing fair while still giving customers the freedom to choose what feels right for them.
