Handmade Shell Poking Tool – For Momi & Kahelelani Shells
This is a handmade tool designed specifically to poke Momi and Kahelelani shells for creating beautiful Hawaiian Heirloom jewelry. It’s a rare find on the market and a must-have for shell jewelry artists — saving you many hours of work (and painful pokes!).
Features:
-
Needle: Made from high-quality spring steel, this tool can be resharpened with a file when needed.
⚠️ Please be sure to sharpen the needle carefully — it should be sharp but not too thin, as making it too fine may cause it to bend. -
Handle: Made from solid Teak and Makor woods, each handle is smooth, comfortable to grip, and crafted to last through years of use.
-
Natural Variation: Wood color and grain patterns vary naturally. Please note that specific wood colors or patterns cannot be selected.
I’ve personally commissioned a talented woodworker to create these tools for both my own use and for my customers. They’ve been a game-changer in my jewelry-making process!
Personal Tip from Janjira:
For my own use, I typically prefer using a medium-length needle to poke Momi shells, as the extra length makes it easier to guide the needle through the hole after the tip has been trimmed. It provides better control and reach, especially when working with longer or thicker shells.
When working with Kahelelani shells, I often switch to a shorter needle. Since Kahelelani shells are smaller and more delicate, the shorter needle gives better precision and minimizes the risk of bending or damaging the shell.
Everyone develops their own preferences with practice, but I hope this tip helps you get started more comfortably!
If you have any questions or need help getting started, please feel free to message me anytime. I’m always happy to help.
With aloha,
