Just like the ridges of Manoa Valley, the shells are woven in an interlocking pattern that flows diagonally, creating a graceful rhythm throughout the lei. This pattern is also called Herringbone style because of its resemblance to the bones of a fish — aligned closely together in a V-shaped sequence.
